Role - Cutscene Artist

Released | Give Me Your Liver's Workshop  | PC

Shot 1

Ruby walking through the forest (Side view)

Shot 1 was the first and most challenging shot I had to do. I needed to create a fluid organic walk cycle with an inorganic overlapping animation of Ruby's cape.

First Pass

Half walk cycle

Clean Up

Full walk cycle with flowing cape

Line Art

Clean lines ready for color

Flat Colors

With a subtle gradient to her tights

Rendered Shot

Shading to the cape

Shot 4

Ruby looks to her mother’s grave.

Initially, the shot was going to have Ruby turning to face what's behind her, but do to time constraints we had to cut it.

Clean Up

Rough cape animation

Line Art

Refined the cape animation

Flat Colors

With a subtle gradient to her tights

Rendered Shot

Shading to the cape as well as a subtle blue shading

Finished Shot

Added an in-between layer to create a more fliud animation

Shot 5

Ruby with her back turned.

One of the "easier" shots I worked on

First Pass

Only the cape and hood needed to be animated

Lineart

Refined Lines

Flat Colors

With a subtle gradient to her tights

Rendered Shot

Shading to the cape and hood

Final Animation

Added a few in-betweens to help the animation flow

Shot 6

Ruby facing the camera with Grimm lurking behind her.

Was a final addition to the scene as the plan was to reuse an asset but none were fitted for this shot.

First Pass

Animated the cape, hood and Ruby's hair

Lineart

Refined Lines

Flat Colors

With a subtle gradient to her tights

Rendered Shot

Shading to the cape and hood with

Miiverse

A fun pixelated illustration to cheer on Ruby (the player) during gameplay!

After Credits Shot Weiss

We wanted to create a "Thank You" image at the end of the credits of the trailer so each of the artists picked one of the girls from Team RWBY to draw. The character I chose was  best girl Weiss!

Rough Sketch

Using the adorable group shot as the inspiration, I sketched in the rough design for Weiss

Linework and Color

The linework is always the most challenging part but once I was happy with the overall shape I then began to lay down the colors.

Rendered Weiss

I am so incredibly proud with how she turned out! I really hope I did the character justice and I wish you could see more of her ponytail in the group shot but here she is in her fully rendered illustration!

Finished Group Shot

Working on this project was such a blast! As a big RWBY fan who's been watching the series since the beginning I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have been able to lend a hand on this amazing project. Thank you for reading and enjoy the trailer and try out the mod yourself today!
